The Tracy Fly Fishers is the Central Valley's newest family oriented fly fishing club. We meet monthly for programs on fly fishing, local fishing issues, and to share our fishing interests. Yearly dues are $40 for the family. Dues are used to maintain our program schedule, fund the administrative needs of the club, and to support the organizations listed below.
Club Meetings are every 3rd Wednesday of each month at: TRACY CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS 333 Civic Center Plz, Tracy, CA The History Of The Tracy Fly Fishers The Tracy Fly Fishers were founded in December 1997 by Rich Lobrovich and Corey Cate. Following is Rich's account of how the club came to be:
In 1988 Corey Cate and I (Rich Lobrovich) joined the Livermore Fly Fishers. We met in a fly tying class and became good friends and fellow fly fishers. In 1989 I moved to Tracy where Corey had lived for a few years and the discussion started why did Tracy not have a Fly Fishing Organization. In 1990 I became the President of the Livermore club to get my feet wet so to speak. I became involved with the NCCFFF (Northern California Council Federation of Fly Fishers) board of directors and attended my first National Conclave in Eugene Oregon. The discussion continued over the next seven years; When were we to start a club in Tracy? In the early summer of 1997 I saw a Parks and Recreation newsletter that was asking for instructors. So I called up and asked if they would consider an instructor in Fly Fishing. The answer was yes, so I put together some details and had scheduled two classes in Sept 97. At this point I started looking at other ways to promote and market the sport of fly fishing. Corey started to work on a newsletter and we decided that if we could get 25-40 people on a mailing list we would attempt to start a club in Tracy. We had the Tri-Valley Herald and the Tracy Press take pictures and write stories about our up coming classes. Eight people signed up for each of our two classes in Sept 97, so we booked a class in OCT 97 , and also in Nov 97. up. The meeting started at NOON and 30 people arrived to hear about a new club. WOW was I surprised! On that day we voted to start a new club named Tracy Fly Fishers, elected officers, held a raffle and had 15 paid members. Later that day Corey sent me an e-mail and said check our new web site out. So we were born on Dec 6, 1997. Our next surprise came when we held our first meeting on Jan 15, 1998. I had figured that if 30 people showed up at my house then we needed a place to hold 40 people, so I searched and found the Tracy Hospital. We had planned to have a 6-7PM open fly tying before the meeting started. So I took the guest speaker out to dinner and arrived at about 6:20PM. To my surprise the parking lot was full and we had standing room only in the new meeting place. After the fly tying we had to clear the room and rearrange the chairs. More and more people showed up and we needed to find a new space to meet. At the conclusion of our first meeting we had signed up 30 more members. A total of 45 paid members with no place to meet. So I searched again for a new place in February 98, I found the Bowling alley. After a few months we moved to the Mobile Home Park and then to the Tracy Wild Life Association. We ended up our first year with 64 members and a newly elected board headed by Corey Cate. Charter Members |
